Boat detailing questions.
Use these answers to understand mobile access, quote factors, material limitations, correction work, protection options, and the information a provider needs.
How much does boat detailing cost around Lake Norman?
Pricing varies with length, vessel type, layout, condition, interior storage, oxidation, mold or mildew, waterline buildup, access, and the selected protection. Some local businesses publish per-foot pricing for standard details, while restoration, coating, and bottom work are custom. The selected provider sets the final price.
Can a detailer work at my Lake Norman marina, dock, or lift?
Often, but “mobile” is not automatic permission. Confirm the facility’s outside-vendor rules, insurance requirements, water and power use, runoff restrictions, work hours, parking, boat movement, and whether the requested chemicals or processes are allowed.
What is normally included in a full boat detail?
A common full detail may include an exterior wash and dry, interior vacuuming and cleaning, vinyl care, floors or carpet, glass, trim, rails, cupholders, tables, and accessible storage. Polishing, oxidation correction, ceramic coating, bottom cleaning, heavy mildew, stain extraction, or repairs may be separate.
Can mold and mildew be removed from boat seats?
Many surface stains improve with material-appropriate cleaning and repeated treatment. Permanent discoloration, weakened stitching, cracked vinyl, foam contamination, and deep growth may not be fully reversible. The provider should test an inconspicuous area and avoid unsafe chemical promises.
Can a chalky or faded gelcoat be restored?
Light to moderate oxidation often improves with staged compounding and polishing. Severe oxidation may require wet sanding or a test spot. If gelcoat is too thin, cracked, repaired poorly, or deeply damaged, gelcoat repair or repainting may be safer than aggressive correction.
What is the difference between wax, sealant, and ceramic coating?
They differ in chemistry, preparation, maintenance, price, and expected durability. A coating is not a substitute for correction; applying it over oxidation or contamination locks in a poor surface. Ask the provider to identify the product, preparation stages, maintenance plan, exclusions, and written warranty.
Can pontoon tubes or the boat bottom be cleaned while the boat is in the water?
Many thorough bottom-cleaning and tube-brightening jobs require the boat to be lifted, trailered, or hauled out so the provider can safely reach the full surface and manage runoff. The marina or facility must approve the process. Do not assume acid washing or chemical treatment is permitted at the slip.
How long does a mobile detail take?
A maintained boat may take several hours; heavy interiors, larger cruisers, severe oxidation, multi-stage correction, coatings, or bottom work can require a full day or multiple days. Weather, shade, access, utilities, drying, cure time, and marina scheduling also affect timing.
Do I need to stay with the boat?
That depends on the owner, provider, marina, and property rules. Arrange keys, access codes, boat movement, valuables, alarms, pets, parking, payment, progress photos, and final inspection before the appointment.
What photos should I send?
Include both exterior sides, bow, stern, interior overview, seats, floor or carpet, storage areas, tower or enclosure, waterline, visible pontoon tubes or bottom, and close-ups of the worst oxidation, scratches, stains, mold, mildew, water spots, or damage. Photos should be current and taken in neutral daylight.
What boat types can be requested?
The form supports pontoons and tritoons, wake and ski boats, bowriders, runabouts, cruisers, fishing boats, jet skis and other personal watercraft. Provider capability and equipment still need to be confirmed.
Does the website perform the detailing?
No. Lake Norman Boat Detail Match is a referral website. The independent provider who accepts the request performs the service and is responsible for the final quote, contract, insurance, scheduling, access, products, workmanship, and customer support.
